Grade 1         conservation & alteration

The house incorporates major elements of a C13th Gilbertine priory. From the C16th until the early C20th it was the seat of the Osborn family, who commissioned major works by both Isaac Ware and James Wyatt.  For the following 60 years, the house was in the MoD’s ownership and largely unused. A complex project secured the future of the building by converting it to form an Officers’ Mess. The work included conservation and repair, both internally and eternally. Conversion of attics, stables and coach house to form living accommodation, insertion of a large catering kitchen, toilets and full reservicing.  The insertion of a three storey fire escape stair in the medieval cloister was a major but essential intervention.
